Catalonia and the referendum phenomena

What was permitted to Scotland was denied to Catalonia : A referendum regarding its independence. As a reaction the Catalonian separatists described the regional vote as a quasi-referendum with uncertain exit. Yet is the Catalonian wish for independence only another symptom of a renationalisation of Europe or could the European idea and the desire for more regionalism develop positive synergies ? UN-climate conference : No perspective for a Plan b

To avoid severe, far-reaching and irreversible consequences for all humankind and the ecosystem, at the 21st Climate conference in Paris, binding goals for the 195 states must be determined. To stop a two percent warming of the Earth the industrial nations must act together especially. The EU has set for a while important measures however its influence still remains small.

A new beginning for Syriza

Alexis Tsipras and Syriza searched for the confrontation with the European partners. Yet the donor countries stayed hard - no debt cut for Greece. However Alexis Tsipras wants to continue fighting. The re-election in September should reinstate him in the office, then he wants to renew the country from scratch. The new enemies are bureaucracy, tax evasion and the corruption in Greece. As long as these are not overcome the euro crisis will continue.

Intergovernmental Europe is broken

An incompetent Greek government of left and right populists are leading their country on the brink of disaster. An uncompromising, hard-hearted German government pushing it down. The problems around Europe are increasing : political instability in Europe’s neighbours, Russia’s aggressive foreign politics, non-stop refugee streams. However instead of solving the problems together, the current political class is leading the idea of Europe as absurdum- an inventory.
